THE Maltings.
(Continued from "TILTY")
We would love to have e-mail from anyone from the Broxted area.
Thanks! Sue and Evelyn.

The rain clouds are building as we start our long journey back to Broxted. We are taking a slightly different course again, looking for the little yellow arrows, which are few and far in between. It is rather like playing "Follow the Arrow" which was one of my favorite childhood games.
Then it happens! It begins to rain...! As the gentle rain turns into a downright POURING rain, we look for a tree to get under. "AH HA" I say, "here is the perfect spot under this tree. There is even a "stile" to sit on!". I quickly moved to be able to sit down for a little rest. Sue is a person who does not believe in taking a little time out to rest now and then. So this was a great opportunity.
Since the rain refused to let up, I reached into my pockets and extracted the two clear plastic raincoats. Sue reluctantly admitted that we did need these after all. (I told you so...:))) However, before we had time to put them on, we were totally drenched.
The "hard taskmaster" (Sue) insisted on moving on regardless as it didn't look like it would be letting up anytime soon. So, with our shoes full of water, we squished on, hoping to find a road soon.

We finally got back to our dear Moor End Farm. I collapsed as I was drenched from head to foot, just too worn out and not feeling chipper enough to go to the Maltings with Sue. I was so disappointed, as I had never expected to EVER actually get to go into the Maltings. But I knew that the lady who invited us there was about to give birth and I certainly did not want to give her my cold at this crucial time. I took a rest, while Sue walked to the Maltings and had a wonderful visit.
It was about the time I had put my soggy shoes outside the door, hoping they would dry a little, that dear Lisa and Simon drove up. They were so sweet and thoughtful to think of us. It seems they wanted to take us on a little tour. I really felt bad as I had to tell them that Sue was off to the Maltings and I think they could see what I felt like, with drenched hair, etc.. smile* I thanked them and I really did appreciate their thoughtfulness. I also said that Sonia had offered to take us to the airport the next morning. That was the last time I saw these two lovely people, but I'll always remember them.
Susie will have to take over on this now, and tell about her visit to The Maltings. I shall put some photos up, but actually I do not know where they were taken.

Susie returned back to OUR Moor End Byre smiling from "ear to ear" after spending a very memorable visit with David and Becky Mansworth of The Maltings. I only wish I could have been there too. I do have lots of photos of the inside of their home so that is one consolation. Also Sue was given a "finding" which had been unearthed in one of the plowed fields there. It was an old ink bottle, or perfume bottle, which Sue really treasures. But I never got to meet the Mansworth family, or Clive Rixon. This was the only disappointment on our entire trip.
We packed up our belongs, etc., with both regret in having to leave, and joy in the anticipation of going to Colchester tomorrow morning. However we had a little difficulty deciding what to do with the left-over food, as we were going to a bed and breakfast house in Colchester. We packed it, and hoped for the best.
After returning back to the US we heard of the news from the Maltings! Congratulations
to David and Becky Mansworth of The Maltings on the arrival of Abigail Violet, a sister for Daniel and Matthew. We are happy for you and your little family, Becky and David. Thanks for allowing Sue in for a look at your home and take photos. We try to visualize the house which was very similar next door #3......and how it was when her grandmother, Laura Poole lived there with the rest of the Poole family. See Photo. #28
